Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations
We released new capabilities in our Advanced Maintenance and Service solution and shipped Security and Compliance Studio. At the same time our teams progressed on moving into extensions which will go to market when we ship our fall release compatibility.
What is the story about extensions and why is it important?
Many of you in the Microsoft Dynamics channel have probably heard about extensions technology. But why is Microsoft applying this technology? Extension technology is a fundamentally different approach to customization of existing code. In order to run code at scale in the cloud, and having many users run it at the same time, you can imagine it would be very risky to change the code frequently. Changes to the code should be handled in a very structured manner and with high precision of testing and reviewing. In the journey to a true cloud application that is multi-tenant, always on and available, the source code had to adhere to another pattern than over-layering, a technique used since the inception of Microsoft Dynamics AX. Over-layering means you can change any code you like, and it will move up to the next layer. This works well in on-premise, isolated code bases. However, it is a high maintenance driver for cloud application, where code purity is the key to scale. Hence we are now working on extension technology in strong collaboration with Microsoft R&D. So what is extension technology about? The key is to not change the original code base. Instead, there are entry and exit points in the code framework to extend it. These are called pre and post hooks. So, when for example you like to get a value in a table that is not retrieved in standard code, you can add code to the post hook to get that value, without ever changing the standard code. Now, the standard code is intact, scalable and can run at high performance using hyper scale computing power. However, it is not always easy to use pre and post hooks. What is it you need to alter the value in the process before retrieving it? So what if you need to interact in the code itself? Microsoft has worked hard to provide a new concept called “chain of command”. This concept can take extensibility to next levels.
Now, at To-Increase, we believe in the value cloud can bring. Better customer experience, faster time to value, better process speeds in large processes, that used to take forever, like master planning or billing. So, we are all game to adhere to the extensibility roadmap driven by Microsoft. However, moving from over-layering to extensions is effectively a rewrite of all our code. Thus, it is a task of epic proportions. At the end of the work we are going to be in a better place. Our release speed will improve and due to the fact we have less dependency on standard code, we should be able to ship solutions faster on new Microsoft releases. And that should make our partners and customers happier. And that is why we are all in.

Evolving Advanced Maintenance and Service
Ensuring strong asset lifecycle management is a key aspect of the AMS solution. Based on our collaboration with partners and customers, additional capabilities are now released in the area of planning and scheduling as well as providing a service portal to customers. The planning capabilities bring better insights into resourcing and customer commitments, whilst service portal will improve the customer experience. Both new offerings can be ordered in conjunction with the AMS solutions.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV “Tenerife” and NAV 2018
A lot of news has been spun on NAV during Directions USA. After initial confusion on the release schedule from Microsoft, now it is confirmed NAV 2018 is planned for later this calendar year. Read more from Microsoft over here.
At present we have scheduled our offerings to be available shortly after NAV 2018 releases and no changes are expected based on the latest information. However, the cloud strategy for NAV is still moving at present. Based on more firm directions from Microsoft, we will align our roadmap accordingly.
Also we have updated our support service policy for upgrades and availability of Major releases, cumulative updates (CU’s) and hotfixes. Kindly find the updated policy outlined below:
To-Increase will align its solutions and products based on the RTM version of a Dynamics NAV major release. Besides the alignment, the major release might include new functionality. Usually the release package will be published on the To-Increase partner portal within 3 months of the Dynamics NAV release date. To-Increase will support this release for the same period as the Dynamics NAV release mainstream support as published by Microsoft.
To-Increase will align its solutions and products with the then current Dynamics NAV Cumulative Update in a Mid-year update (usually June) and as a Final Freeze as soon as the new Major Release has been published. Besides the alignment the cumulative update will contain a Hotfix roll-up and might include new functionality.
Hotfix updates are used for bug fixing only and will not contain new functionality. The hotfix updates will be created only when bugs are fixed and will be released in a 2-week cycle. If no fixes are available, no hotfix release will be made available.
All packages available at the To-Increase portal under the download section.
